Eastbrook Film Studios

Stortford Interiors (UK) Ltd were appointed by Main Contractor Volker Fitzpatrick to deliver a large high performance and exacting drywall package at Eastbrook Studios, Dagenham. Developed on a brownfield site in East London, the facility transformed former industrial land into a state-of the-art film and television complex incorporating world class sound stages, offices and technical spaces. The scheme represented London’s largest film production centre built for 25 years with 12 sound stages, three acres of back lot and ancillary space totalling in excess of half a million square feet.

Scope of Works

Following a collaborative and engaging tender and pre-construction period Stortford’s appointment captured a broad and highly technical drywall and ceilings scope. The remit included high level beam encasements to perimeter steel framework and a broad performance internal column encasement package. To the envelope of the studios the business meticulously assisted in thermal calculations and worked hand in hand with the Client team to arrive at an SFS and thru wall constructions to satisfy thermal performance requirements.

A large, logistically challenging internal drywall wall and partitions package permitted the business to deliver a multi-million pound scope that included single frame & twin frame partitions, shaftwall and gypliner systems that extended to a maximum of 19m from structural slab to underside of structure with intimate deflection detailing to structural steel members. Cavity barrier, soffit insulation and other ancillary products were also utilised in the build all to satisfy demanding acoustic and performance specifications.

Appended to the drywall package was a large scale acoustic quilt package required to the studio walls. This package represented on of the largest of its kind in the UK and required specific logistical, procurement and programme management to source and install. Also Coupled to the drywall scope was a ceilings package that included multiple proprietary systems and products. In addition to MF ceilings to office and technical areas Stortford Interiors assisted design and installed bespoke black mesh ceilings to external canopy and high-profile areas and metal pan systems to office and support areas.

The project represented a fantastic opportunity to form a close and collaborative working relationship with the Main Contractor and Client team and demonstrate our commitment to quality and control on a large technically challenging drywall and ceilings scope. Stortford’s relentless drive to deliver a superior product safely and securely was of paramount importance and has manifested in the project receiving numerous awards and accolades including Winner of Studios & Clubs – Acoustic Awards 2025.
