Angel Square, EC1
Transformed by Tishman Speyer, Angel Square is a new HQ workspace that works harder for our planet and people – at the gateway to one of London’s favourite neighbourhoods and minutes from Kings Cross St Pancras. The mixed-use office led development incorporates new active frontages, builds over an existing underground station and repositions a public house while retaining the existing concrete structure. The landmark development utilises the structure of three previous interconnected postmodern office blocks to provide 187,400 modern office space above a highly permeable mixed-use ground floor comprising of a public house, a new grand lobby with access from Islington High Street and entrance to Angel Underground Station.
As part of a collaborative team with McLaren Construction, the works transformed 132,000 sq ft of office space in three linked buildings to create one 293,000 sq ft building containing 188,000 sq ft of office space, affordable workspace, a replacement public house and a public café. The refurbishment retains around 70% of the existing structure, adding two new floors with roof terraces. The cores were moved to a central position, freeing space and opening up floor plans. The new significantly redeveloped building retains the reinforced concrete frame and basement of the early 90’s post-modern office block, saving a significant amount of embodied carbon.
Scope of Works
The appointment by McLaren saw our Joinery Business Unit deliver a comprehensive Joinery fit-out package across all levels. The package scope comprised Oak Veneered & Painted Internal Timber Doorsets, Ironmongery, Timber & Bronze Skirtings, Protective Rubber Bump Rail, Oak Veneered Lift Lobby Wall Panelling, Timber Handrails, Post Room Furniture, Lockers & Shower Benches. Our works to the expansive Reception Area included Reception Desk, Banquette Seating, Front & Back Bar incorporating Terrazzo Worktops, Waiter Station & Bar Table Top.
Our in-house design capabilities, can-do attitude and interface management experience enabled us to identify project risk early, and provide the appropriate solutions to enable us to achieve peerless quality standards and meet demanding client expectations.
