Stortford Interiors (UK) Ltd are very proud to announce that we have recently secured a multi-million pound drywall and ceilings contract at the Life and Mind Building, Oxford for our longstanding client Wates Construction. The project is part of Legal & General and Oxford University’s £4bn partnership.
The LAMB building represents the largest building project ever undertaken on behalf of the University and will be its largest teaching and research facility. The scheme will help scientists in the Departments of Biology and Experimental Psychology solve some of our major global challenges.
Due to open in 2024 the building, situated at the gateway to the Oxford’s Science Area, covers 25,000 sqm, set over two wings containing laboratory and office accommodation with a central atrium and lower floor teaching centre. The design will provide maximal flexibility and foster collaboration between departments.
Its construction will transform the educational experience for students, provide laboratories for students and researchers, as well as lecture theatres, specialised support laboratories and opportunities for public engagement.
This fantastic regional appointment will see Stortford Interiors deliver a very expansive scope that includes performance drywall to core and cellular areas and satisfy robust acoustic, fire and technical deflection requirements with varying building fabric interfaces. Coupled with this a very diverse range of ceiling membranes that capture monolithic, timber, metal pan and bespoke constructions the project represents a voluminous highly sophisticated scheme. Works are due to start late 2022 and finish early 2024.
Scott Shearing (Managing Director) declared ‘this is a significant award for us and one that we have worked diligently to secure over the last year. Consistent quality and compliance will be paramount to the success of the project and our team has been scrutinising design and detail to ensure we deliver a class-leading product. We looking forward to working once more with Wates and engaging with all project stakeholders during the process and setting class leading standards’.
