Stortford Interiors are delighted to announce that we have secured a significant Architectural Fit-Out award at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), in London WC2. The project will be delivered for leading construction company McLaren, and represents an important appointment for the business, continuing the strong start to 2026.
The Firoz Lalji Global Hub is the final set-piece addition to the LSE central London campus and is prominently located on the south side of Lincoln’s Inn Fields. With the mission to address global issues, the building will include conference facilities, academic and teaching spaces, digital labs, and a 250-seat theatre. The design embraces the ethos of the new centre through a strategy of adaptive re-use that will see large parts of the existing structure retained helping make it LSE’s first net zero carbon building.
Designed by David Chipperfield Architects, the hub will be an exemplar in circular design and resource efficiency. It is expected to be the largest Passivhaus retrofit building in the UK. Around 60% of the original building will be retained when the top three floors and roof plant enclosure are demolished and replaced by a lightweight cross-laminated timber extension, taking the building from 9,856 square metres to 11,848 square metres. New educational facilities for the LSE will accommodate the Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa alongside additional space for the Department of Mathematics, Department of Statistics, Executive Education and Data Science Institute.
Stortford used its broad architectural package experience to secure the supply and installation of a Diathonite render system to the internal faces of the external facades on Lincon Inn Fields , Portugal Street and the East Elevations . The package scope also captures the supply and installation of American White Oak glazed screens with integral door sets and associated satin stainless-steel ironmongery across levels 1-7 of the building.
